The primary purpose of any pro-life organization is
educational. Whether it is a crisis pregnancy center, a political action
committee, or an activist-oriented agency, the essential obligation is
to engage the culture and tell the truth about sanctity of life issues.
For
Vital Signs Ministries, this task has taken many
forms. Sidewalk counseling at the very doors of the abortion clinics,
newsletters, letters to the editor, press releases, peaceful protest
events, "Vital Signs" radio programs, the monthly "LifeSharer" letter,
articles in various periodicals, and the creation of the AAA Center for
Pregnancy Counseling. One of the most
important of our educational services, however, has been a series of
provocative "Frontier Issues" conferences in which we have tackled
important, but often overlooked, elements of pro-life development.
In
that series of conferences, we have featured specialists in their
respective fields combined with sessions on how to practically put the
things we've learned into action.
Topics
we have explored through this format have included "brain death,"
chemical abortion, aging, the myths of overpopulation, genetic
engineering, women's health issues, euthanasia, the links between
abortion and breast cancer, evolutionary theory as a foundation for
abortion, chastity education, and more.
In
addition to our "Frontier Issues" conferences, Vital Signs has hosted
several extraordinary pro-life Christians to address our annual Christmas
Celebration audience. Included in this impressive list are Joe Scheidler;
Jack Willke; Nebraska Governor Kay Orr; acclaimed theologian and
apologist, Norm Geisler; former abortion clinic manager, Helen Pendley; Bev LaHaye; UNL law professor, Rick Duncan;
Judge Randall Hekman; Gracie Hsu; and even a very unique visit from the
beloved Bishop of Myra himself, Saint Nicholas! Under the general
umbrella of educational services, Vital Signs Ministries also sponsors
its very effective "Book It!"
and "Faith & Films" discussions, the
long-running "P.A.L. Night" feature, Denny's speaking
engagements, and the extensive record of "Vital Signs" radio
programs. There's also this web site, Vital Signs Blog, literature distribution, public
demonstrations and more.
